At Nepal School Projects we love to hear from Nepalese students who have participated in our projects. Just recently Fran Lloyd, Executive Director of NSP, received a letter from Resam Syangtan. Resam’s education is sponsored by NSP. We are very appreciative of his kind words and thrilled that our sponsorship has benefited him and his family. Read his letter below to hear how your support can change a life in Nepal!

Namaste!

I am Resam Syangtan sponsored student of our late Mike Rojik. Hope you are doing good there. It's really an honour for me to message you. I still remember the day you came to my school Pushpa Bal Academy. It was really an unforgettable moment for me. I just got your address from Rakam and got this opportunity to message you. I am really glad that we are in touch now.

All of your generosity towards us has made us to this level. Without your help we wouldn't be at this level. I want to heartly thank you once again. I hope you know my brother Keshav Syangtan and my two sisters Mana and Bhima Syangtan. We are all sponsored students of NSP. I have just finished my+2 level examination and am now enjoying my vacation. My results will be published after six months. As for Keshav, he has completed his 10th grade with 75% result. Mana and Bhima are now in 9 and 6 grades respectively. Their result of this year is really outstanding. They both are brilliant and disciplined students. Bhima stood first in her 5th grade class with 93% and Mana also stood good position grade 8 with 80% result.

I also got in touch with my sister’s sponsors a few months ago. We also talked with them on Skype a few times. We were really glad in talking with them. They said they will continue to sponsor Mana and Bhima in their studies and give them all the books for education. We are really thankful to them once again. Since you will be handling our NSP of Kathmandu we are of great relief here. We are really thankful to all of you.

A very good warm Namaste from my father ( Gyan bdr. Syangtan) and mother (Kanchhi Maya Syangtan).

All all our love to you,

Resham Syangtan

New Relationships Bring Continued Success

The board of Nepal School Projects (NSP) has been working to establish a smooth transition between NSP Canada and NSP NEPAL. Michael was an integral person in the organization and we have had to restructure to move forward. I recently vacated the chair of NSP Canada to assume the post of interim Executive Director of NSP and will be responsible for overseeing the direction of NSP and the continuation of projects in Nepal until a new Executive Director is found. I have been associated with NSP since 2001 and have visited the projects in Nepal on several occasions with Michael. A former secondary teacher, now retired, I also have been involved in leading Canadian school groups there.

I am happy to say that we have been quite successful with our transition, particularly in Nepal. Rakam Lama, the operations manager and Michael’s right hand man in Nepal, and I have been communicating on a regular basis. Rakam has been trained by Michael and was responsible for all work on the ground in Nepal. We have restructured the board there to be able to function in a more transparent manner and have appointed an accountant to oversee the financial well-being of NSP Nepal. As I am unable to speak Nepali, and Rakam speaks no English, sharing information was our major roadblock. Fortunately, we have recently been introduced to a Nepali citizen, a lawyer and translator living in Katmandu, who is able to translate for us. His name is Suraj and he has graciously offered his support and services. He has years of international experience, including working with the United Nations. With the support of Rakam and Suraj, I now feel that we are in a very strong position to continue with the projects of NSP. Weekly, I SKYPE with Rakam and our board members, using the translator, Suraj, and feel very confident that we will be able to carry on with the projects in the villages. Suraj is keenly interested in NSP and has volunteered his time to help us build the skills and expertise of the board members there. This is incredibly important work as NSP Canada takes all direction from the NSP Nepal board.

I am grateful for the relationships I have formed and the tremendous support I have received from NSP Nepal. Because of these relationships, we are able to continue important projects with a fresh set of hearts and minds dedicated to the work. Stay tuned for a detailed project update about the work that is happening on the ground in Nepal!

Namaste

Fran Lloyd
